Weddings take an awful lot of planning and preparation. From dresses and suits, to cake makers, sending out invitations, to deciding on the food, it can be easy to forget that there is a life to plan after the big day. One of the most important things to remember is that marriage is more than just about the wedding day.
If you’re planning a wedding, then it’s worth knowing and thinking about some of the things with your partner that will need to happen after the day. For example, will you be changing your name to your spouse’s last name? We have all the documents in place to reflect your new name? Another thing. Where will you be living?
Here are just a few of the things that you will need to think about for the ‘after’ part of your happily ever after.
Create a keepsake box of wedding items
With so much planning and preparation going into your big day, it’s natural to want to keep that some items for you to remember for the rest of your life. Photographs in frames and on social media can only do so much, especially when they’re all posed and may feel slightly unnatural. Ask friends and family if they took any candid shots and select a few of your favourite to have framed for your home. Maybe you want to hold onto items like your place name settings and a couple of wedding favours. If you have flowers maybe have them dried and put into a frame so you have a lifelong memory of the day.
Keeping just a few of these special items will help to keep the memory alive of your special day without cluttering up your home.
Consider where you’ll be living
Of course, this is a natural conversation to have prior to getting married. Many couples will have already lived together before the marriage to see if they can manage to live together after they are married. Other couples don’t, so moving in together will be a huge milestone after their wedding day. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean just about the home you’ll be living in just after you get married. It could be planning where you’ll move in 5 to 10 years time. What kind of home will you want to live in? What’s important to you both about the communities you’ll be living in. Do you want to live in a turnkey property or will you consider hiring a knockdown rebuild specialist to get you your ideal home in your perfect location?
Send thank-you notes
Whether you chose to have a wedding registry that guests are aware of or not, soon after your wedding is a great time to send out thank you notes to people for any gifts you may have received. Or if people came together to help put on your special day then you should thank them, too. Show people that you’re grateful for their help and contribution. Remember, planning the best day of your life is also about planning your future.
Thanks for the tips
