Good mattresses are really hard to find. Honestly, I've struggled with having good sleep ever since I've moved back home to Hong Kong after university. It's really important to get at least 8 hours of decent sleep each night, but getting a good night's rest has always been a problem for many people in Hong Kong. Today I want to talk about Skyler, a lovely Hong Kong mattress brand that promises to transform your sleep once and for all.
A bit about the brand- Skyler started with a shopping trip between two childhood friends, Jason and Alex. Jason needed a mattress for his new apartment, while Alex wanted to replace his old spring mattress that had started to sag. The duo decided that there's a huge market in Hong Kong for mattresses that are affordable yet luxurious and serves their function well. As a result, Skyler was built, which promises to deliver a world-class mattress which gives great sleep for the best value. The name Skyler has Danish origins and means "giving shelter".
I was fortunate to be able to test out two of Skyler's signature products. The first item that I want to show you is the Skyler Mattress, which comes in 6 and 10 inch thicknesses. Take a look below!
In terms of comfort, this Skyler mattress is a 10/10 because it's super soft and comfortable, but also can be adjusted in terms of firmness by simply flipping the inner layers upside down. The mattress is extremely comfortable to sleep on compared to my existing mattress at home, which was about 10 years old and long due for replacement. This mattress is extremely easy to sleep on, and it doesn't sag or sink when you lie on it.
The top is made from natural latex, which is the perfect top layer, combining comfort, support and responsive bounce. Its open-cell design effectively dissipates body heat to keep you cool all night. It is also anti-bacterial and repels dust and other small detritus. The second layer contains a memory foam material which is specially designed for the brand, and it feels extremely lovely to sleep on. It ensures that the back gets the support it needs, and I felt so comfortable sleeping on it all night.
The bottom layer of the mattress (which can be reversed to be the top layer if you want something harder on top) is made from a high-density polyurethane layer which adds strength and durability to the core mattress structure, ensuring your body gets the firm back support it needs. I love flipping up the mattress layers with this side on top since I'm used to harder mattresses, and this side supports my back better. I love the layering effect of this mattress, as the materials all fit together to create one of the best mattresses that I've ever seen. It is extremely comfortable and soft. In terms of how to adjust the mattress's firmness, you simply:
1. Unzip and remove the mattress cover
2. Flip the inner layers of the mattress (with the high density support foam layer on top)
3. Place the inner mattress foam layers back into the mattress cover
4. Put on bedsheets and enjoy the new, firmer mattress
The top of the mattress is completed with a woven tencel and coolmax cover, which ensures that your body never overheats at night. This layer is washable and removable, which means you can put it in the washing machine if it ever gets dirty. I love how the mattress is fire-resistant and anti-slip, so it ensures that your bed is always in place no matter how you place it. I'd rate the manufacturing of the mattress a 10/10 too as it's beautifully made, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing.
What I love most about the mattress is that it is completely still when another person sleeps on it. When I sleep with my partner, he always moves around and it wakes me up so badly. This mattress absorbs all the movement and doesn't disturb anyone at all! It's spring-free and gorgeous, and I love this part of the mattress a lot. It also keeps me very cool at night, whenever I have night-sweats and am feeling hot due to the HK weather, this mattress makes sure I have a good night's sleep.
The mattress is amazingly easy to order and unbox. I did an unboxing video on my Instagram, and you can watch it there. The mattress came in a tiny box which was delivered straight to my door, and the mattress just unfolded itself after I cut the vacuum-sealed bag open. The best thing about this style of packaging is that anyone can buy their mattress, no matter where you live, as you don't have to carry it in a heavy container. The mattress is sealed so tightly that it fits in a tiny box, and it's really fun to open too and watch it expand! I love how the mattress is easy to use and buy.
Skyler also has a lovely Contour memory foam pillow which I tried for a long time before writing this review. This is one of the best memory foam pillows that I've ever used, for it moulds with my neck very well and fits the shape of my neck perfectly. This lovely curved Contour Pillow is great for people seeking additional neck support with its ergonomic shape, and as a person suffering from neck pain most of the time this is a life-saver.
The best thing about this pillow is the quality and style. The quality is fantastic, as the pillow features a cooling gel pad as a top layer, which prevents the head and neck from overheating. This is so important as most pillows feel sticky and hot during the summer nights, while this pillow will never have this issue. The plush padded memory foam layer is soft, supportive and lovely, just like the mattress. It is like sleeping on a cloud!
The pillow's size is also adjustable as it comes with a removable foam layer that allows you to raise or lower the height of the pillow to perfectly align with your neck and shoulders. I love how Skyler allows you to adjust the heights of the pillow as well as the hardness of the mattress. They're so flexible and versatile, and anyone can find something that fits them! The pillow is designed to fit people that sleeps on their backs and sides, so it will be perfect for most people.
Overall, I want to say how impressed I am with Skyler's mattress and pillow. It's one of the best brands of mattresses that I've ever tried. I'm really impressed with the impeccable design of the mattress, the adjustability of the pillow and the luxurious and comfortable materials that both items are made of. I think Skyler is definitely one of the best brands that I've ever tried and I'd highly recommend them if you want to get a better night's sleep.
