How I Cured My Sweaty Hands (Hyperhidrosis) - Iontoderma review

Today, I want to do a detailed post about my experience with the Iontoderma 1D 1000 machine. I have been using this Iontoderma for around 2 weeks now and I'm finally able to write about my experience for you. Before the review, let me start with a little introduction on what hyperhidrosis is.

1. What is hyperhidrosis? 

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. Around 2-3% of the US population suffers from excessive sweating of the underarms,  palms and soles of the feet. It is an embarrassing condition and can affect social relationships, romance and everyday activities such as driving, shaking hands and more. 

2. My hyperhidrosis story

I started noticing that I had extremely sweaty palms a few years ago, when someone shook my hands and told me how clammy it felt. I was very embarrassed, but unfortunately I could not find anything that can cure sweaty palms other than oral medication, which I did not want to take. It is quite embarrassing for me, as I have to go to a lot of social events and shaking hands is part of the routine.

I also had trouble holding my boyfriend's hands as I always felt self-conscious about how wet they were. I tried to keep a handkerchief in my bag at all times to wipe them dry, but the sweating seems to come back frequently.

3. How the Iontoderma machine works

One of the cures for hyperhidrosis is to treat the sweat glands just below the outermost layer of the skin, which leaves your hands and feet dry. A simple 20 minute session once a week is all it takes keep the sweat level down. All you need is water and an iontophoresis machines, which is better than some of the harmful chemicals in medication. There is no known side effects and it is perfectly safe - so safe that many hospitals provide these machines for patients who come to them with this condition! 

The non invasive procedure involves passing a low voltage electric current through the hands or feet using a water bath. I googled some sites, and they recommended seven 20-30 minute sessions in the first month, after which the number of sessions can be greatly reduced and are tailored on an individual basis. The frequency of the maintenance treatment varies with the individual and may be anything from twice a week to a month or so. Best of all they boat a success rate of 98% and you can get a full refund it if doesn't work after 60 days.

4. Testing out Iontoderma 1D 1000

The lovely Iontoderma package arrived to the UK within a week via DHL, which was incredibly quick. It came in beautiful bubble wrapping and packaged in a neat plastic box. I love the size of the package as it is easy to carry, compact and not as large as I imagined. It opens with two black slide clasp on the top.

The items inside the plastic box included: 2 metal plates for conducting the electricity, two cables that had red and white split cables at the top, a plug connected to a battery, and another connector which you plug into the battery. The pack also contains two sheets of plastic, foam-like material which protects your hands from direct contact with the metal plates.

To start, you plug in the connecting cable to the battery pack, which had a socket at the end for you to plug into the wall. It was super easy to do, and the battery pack was quite petite and convenient to use.

Next, you take everything out of the box and place the two metal sheets onto the two separate sides of the box. This forms the base where the electric currents are to pass though, and it's super simple to do!

After placing the plastic sheets on top of the metal panels, I plugged in the red and black cables to the ends of the connecting cable which was connected to the batteries. Again, it's super easy to do and didn't take any time at all!

All you have to do next is plug in the split cables into the metal plates, according to the colors stated on the plates. Remember that you have to repeat this cycle with the units switched around after the 1st cycle in order to fully make sure the electrons permeate your sweat glands.

Next, you pour water onto the two sides- just enough to cover your palms, but not too much. I used tap water from my kitchen, and any type of water will work well. This is the funnest part of the treatment!

Afterwards, you can adjust the battery pack to get a suitable voltage to start a 10 minute treatment. I chose the lowest voltage since I am quite sensitive to electricity and I'm a bit nervous about starting this. However, the lowest voltage did not hurt at all, and felt pleasantly relaxing. I did not feel any side effects.

I couldn't show you both of my hands as I used the other one to take the photo, but I actually tried the treatment immediately after taking the photos for this review, and I repeated the cycle using reversed nodes for another 10 minutes. Iontoderma recommends that each treatment lasts 20 minutes, but you can change it according to your tolerance or needs.

5. Honest review of my Experience 

Overall, Iontoderma's accessible set up and ease of use impressed me greatly. I have never used a machine like this before, but this machine exceeded my expectations for a number of reasons. First, it was much smaller and more compact than I expected, which means that you can carry the Iontoderma machine anywhere you wish, including to vacation, holidays or work.

Secondly, the machine is super easy to use and tidy up. After using it all I had to do was dry the components and shut the box. Everything fits neatly inside and I did not need to waste time dismantling anything.

Thirdly, it is highly effective and worth the money. After using this Iontoderma machine for 2 weeks, I am pleased to say that my hands have stopped sweating and I no longer suffer from sweaty palms all the time. I was surprised that it worked since I had the mindset that nothing could cure my hyperhidrosis, but how wrong was I! I can finally go out and shake people's hands without feeling self-conscious. I can also go for a whole day without any uncomfortable, wet feelings on my palms!

From Iontoderma’s website, it states that 55% of people who used it see the difference after a week of use. Personally, I only saw a difference after 2 weeks of persistence, so I would recommend that you try the machine for around 2 weeks before you can notice any difference. It is not advisable for pregnant women though, so make sure you do your research before use.

Although the machine is not cheap (nearly $400) it is totally worth every dollar as it completely cured my hyperhidrosis. I feel that this machine is much better than taking long-term medication, which wastes even more money in the long run.
