Volunteering and helping the socially disadvantaged is one of my biggest passions in life. I've always loved the fact that you can help improve the lives of others, even if it's in small, tiny ways. Today, I want to introduce you to one of my favourite ethical clothing brands, Hopeful Traders.
Launched in 2015 by Charlie Wright, Hopeful Traders is one of the most innovative ethical fashion brands in the scene. They are dedicated to helping artists formerly affected with homelessness and mental health problems, giving them a platform to draw and sell their designs on clothing for men and women.
One of the artists, David, for example, had previously been homeless. However, his life has changed thanks to Hopeful Traders, which has allowed him to showcase his artwork, earn a profit and donate a portion of all the profits from his shirts to his chosen charity. Hopeful Traders also manufactures everything ethically, so all of their clothing is organic and certified by the Fairwear Foundation who work with factories to make sure that everything is manufactured in good working conditions.
I'm lucky enough to be able to review some of Hopeful Trader's items today. I got 4 fantastic items from their shop, which was delivered to me in a beautiful, brown box with delicate packaging. Even before opening the box, I was already impressed with the professional presentation of their package!
1) David's Boot Organic Sweat - this was the very first sweater that caught my attention, as it was meticulously designed by David, one of the first artists on board the Hopeful Traders project. I love this sweater because it is unisex and also really soft and comfortable to wear. In fact, it's one of the best sweaters I've ever worn, because it's made from 100% organic cotton which feels lovely on the skin. In terms of the look, this design features a little boot icon which is subtle yet fashionable at the same time. I just love how this sweater goes well with anything, like a pair of jeans or boots for both men and women!
2) Encouragement Sweatshirt - what can I say, this Encouragement sweatshirt is simply beautiful and timeless, and looks excellent on any body type. It is designed by Zin V, an artist whom started out drawing postcards on the streets. It has a minimalistic and aesthetic vibe, and looks quite cool and clean-cut - perfect for guys who want a casual and cool look. The quality of this sweatshirt again is fantastic and it is very soft to touch. I'd advice getting a size up as it's quite slim-fitting!
3) Hopeful Organic Tee (Heather Deep)- the perfect t-shirt is hard to come by, but Hopeful Traders does it well as this tee is perfectly fitting and doesn't look loose or baggy at all. Though this tee doesn't have designs on it, they have many other tees that do have drawings and illustrations on the corner, so if you want a graphic-styled tee there's always something for you. I love how they have t-shirts of various colors and designs, but I chose this one because it looked classic and timeless. This is part of the brand's collection, and their quality is simply stunning as I mentioned before.
4) and 5) Clay Tee and Sky Tee - again these are brilliant tees. In terms of the colour, quality and design, they are spot on and suitable for any time of guy or girl since I'm pretty sure their tees are unisex. I love wearing my clay and sky tees, as the colors just go with any item in my wardrobe. I adore the logo on the top and the minimalistic, clean and simple style of the tees. Hopeful Traders has really got it right in terms of designing ethical tees that look and feels really good!
Overall, the fantastic quality of their clothing combined with their impressive social mission makes Hopeful Traders one of the most important, and exciting ethical fashion brands out there. If you want to help the needy, and look fashionable at the same time, you should check out their collections. I had such a fun time admiring and browsing around on their designs, and buying ethical fashion always has the benefit of making yourself feel better about your role as a world consumer.
Do watch this very touching and inspiring video about David, one of the Hopeful Traders artists, and his journey with this awesome ethical brand.
