From catwalk to high street: this season’s trends
Fashion is a paradoxical industry – what’s currently hot on the catwalks might never filter down into the real-life wardrobes of real-life people, but quite often diluted forms of ideas originally paraded in Paris and Milan will trickle down to our high streets, even if some ideas are destined to have a greater impact than others. So, which high fashion concepts have made it all the way to the high street this season? All things 90s
This questionable decade is having a bit of a fashion renaissance at the moment, and the high street is positively packed with 90s-inspired pieces. Look out for acid wash denim skirts, shorts, jeans and jackets, as well as splashes of neon colour on grungy t-shirts. To really embrace the trend, a crop-top and a pair of chunky lace-up boots are a must. Spice Girls soundtrack optional!
Pastels
This season, the pastel colour palette is everywhere, and there’s no doubt that part of the appeal is their gorgeous names – candy pink, mint green, lemon yellow, duck egg blue, lavender – these colours sound good enough to eat, not to mention wear. To fully embrace the trend, try mixing and matching several pastel pieces in one outfit. Alternatively, give your pastels some edge by wearing them with black and metallics.
Leather
Leather never really goes out of fashion, so predictably it’s also going to be big this season. Combine three major trends by pairing a pastel top with leather shorts for a simple summer festival look – top it off with a studded denim jacket to add a touch of metallic edge.

I personally feel like every season, fashion magazines always say pastels are back in for spring/summer and jewel tones are big for fall/winter, but I never understood why that was such a "big trend." I feel like the color palette just naturally follows our mood, when different seasons come.
